Want to work with young people? Or do you already work with young people and want to upskill? Check out our youth work training options below!

The Salvation Army Youth Department offers training and professional development in youth work for leaders seeking quality education and to gain the required skills to work with young people in a range of settings. Our aim is to develop youth workers who will make a long-term impact in local corps, centres and communities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

In 2021, we will have three youth work training models on offer: Foundations of Youth Work, Youth Work LAB Apprenticeship and Youth Work Distance Apprenticeship. Applications for all youth work training options for 2021 are now open!

FOUNDATIONS OF YOUTH WORK

Foundations of Youth Work is an entry level certificate recognised within TheSalvation Army. It equips students with a foundational understanding of key components of youth work. Students are required to attend four training days and five coaching sessions over one year. The training days are held on Saturdays—two in Wellington and two online. The course is beneficial for anyone involved in youth ministry, including employees, volunteers, key leaders, helpers and up-and-coming leaders. You must be at least 16 years old, and it is recommended for those who have been involved in youth ministry for 0-2 years, for anyone with no prior youth work training and for those new to youth work within The Salvation Army.
