The Salvation Army currently offers three youth work training models.

Foundations 2024 application processing deadline: February 16th at the latest, to allow for applicant processing.

FOUNDATIONS OF YOUTH WORK.

Foundations of Youth Work is an entry level certificate recognised within The Salvation Army. It equips students with a foundational understanding of key components of youth work. Students are required to attend four training days and five coaching sessions over one year. The training days are held on Saturdays—two in Wellington and two online.

The course is beneficial for anyone involved in youth ministry, including employees, volunteers, key leaders, helpers and up-and-coming leaders. You must be at least 16 years old, and it is recommended for those who have been involved in youth ministry for 0-2 years, with no prior youth work training, or for those new to youth work within The Salvation Army.

Foundations 2024 applications are open, closing Friday 16th February.

(Please ensure applications are completed by the 16th at the latest, in able to account for processing through the corps/centre of origin, and Territorial Headquarters).

LAB APPRENTICE-
SHIP.

The Salvation Army Youth Work LAB Apprenticeship is a full-time, three-year commitment that includes undertaking practical youth work in a supportive environment at an approved LAB while studying for approved qualifications. It is for those wanting to train in youth work and who may sense a calling to this work as a ‘vocation’ or long-term career.

It is preferred that applicants have had prior involvement in the life of their corps/centre or divisional youth team as well as youth work practice experience.

DISTANCE APPRENTICE-
SHIP.

The Salvation Army Youth Work Distance Apprenticeship is a full-time, three-year commitment that includes undertaking practical youth work in your local corps/centre while studying for approved qualifications. It is for those wanting to train in youth work and who may sense a calling to this work as a ‘vocation’ or long-term career. 

It is preferred that applicants have had prior involvement in the life of their corps/centre or divisional youth team as well as youth work practice experience.
